Avast! Pirate Sites

AvastSome thoughts on pirate sites

I’ve been seeing a rash of pirate website selling deeply discounted or even free ebooks.  I am not going to rant about how unethical these sites are or that you are stealing from the author.  There are a million posts like that.

I’m going to offer another perspective.  As a reformed computer geek, I view these “here today gone tomorrow” pirates sites as nothing more than a virus waiting to infect your computer.  Literally.  Did you know that some sites can infect your computer with a virus or key logger just by visiting?  You might think, I have X Brand Anti-Virus software so I’m safe.  Uh, no.  Since these programs are built by people with the sole intention of messing up your life, they evolve to evade Norton or McAfee, etc.  Hence why your software has updates, to counter the new stuff.  So,  you can get computer bugs.

If you buy a discounted book, the site owner might just take your payment information and use it themselves, especially credit cards.  If you slap your personal information down to buy a discounted book you have no guarantee that site wont turn around and sell it or use it to buy high prices electronics overseas.  Can we say identity theft?

A free download from an unknown site could result in the aforementioned virus too.  Especially if the file is zipped.  So you might think that you are getting a free ebook but instead you get free porn pop ups and a trip to the tech guys to get it removed.  Imagine trying to explain the porn infestation?  Ha ha.  And that’s just the light end of what could happen.

So, in summary, please purchase and download your ebooks from sites you trust.  Amazon, B&N, All Romance Ebooks, the author’s own website, or the publisher website.  Type in the URL to your browser yourself.  Sometimes phishers try to make their site look legit by using an Amazon logo so don’t click funky ads or weird looking addresses.  Protect yourself buy avoiding scam sites.  🙂

Review: Midnight Surrender

Midnight SurrenderHe makes her body sing, but Angelina wants more than just sex from her dark and delicious vampire. She wants love.

Dmitri has spent the last year strumming the beautiful Angelina’s body into submission. One night she gives him an ultimatum, love or she walks. What will he choose?

Midnight Surrender is fast paced, steamy, and a great introduction to Valerie Twombly’s work.  Get thrown right into the action as Angelina and Dmitri meet for an intimate rendezvous.  Only afterward does Angelina express her true desire, a confession of love.  1-Click this short story to find out Dmitri’s answer.  Aside from needing a little extra world building, I thought this was fun.  Check out Ms. Twombly’s other titles such as “Eternal Flame”, “Amazon Heat”, and “Demon Slayer.”

Review: Desert Dreams

desertDesert Dreams by Sophia Jones

Originally featured in the anthology Fantasies of a Housewife edited by Tina Pollick, “Desert Dreams” is a contemporary romantic short story.

Shaylene Thomas is a busy working mom. Raising her two girls on her own in rural Arizona’s high desert country, each day is an adventure filled with both beauty and challenges– and she wouldn’t trade a moment of it for all the riches in all the skyscrapers in the world. But sometimes she dreams of a warm pair of arms to curl into at night … and sometimes dreams come true.

This was cute, and funny, and sexy.  Very well written, it really reeled me in and made me care about the characters.  Worth the read though for sure!

Review: The Phantom and the Psychic

PhantomThe Phantom and the Psychic: A Paranormal Erotic Tale by Sophia Jones

A paranormal erotic short story, psychic Alyssa DeAngelo travels to a castle-turned-resort in the Italian countryside to assist its owner with his ghostly problem. There, she encounters Dominicus Romano, a tormented soul who has dwelt within the castle walls for six centuries. Can she help him find peace?

I really enjoyed this short and steamy story.  The pacing was just right, there was just enough mystery to keep me guessing, and I was very happy at the end.  For $.99 you really can’t go wrong with this paranormal short story.

Review: The Pharaoh and the Curator

pharoahThe Pharaoh and the Curator: A Paranormal Erotic Tale By Sophia Jones

I think that I managed to nab this one while it was free but the $.99 price tag now is still a great bargain.  As the title and the cover implies, this is an erotic tale set in Egypt with an ‘unlucky in love museum curator Michelle Beaumont finds herself in Egypt where she contributes to god Amon Ra’s resurrection.’  You don’t need to imagine what happens next if you buy your own copy.

I thought that this was an easy and steamy read with some adventure thrown in.  I love Egyptian mythology and this really resonated with me.  My only complaint is that I felt it could have been longer.  But can’t that be said about any good story?

Review: Imposters’ Kiss

Imposters’ Kiss by Renea Mason
Symphony of Light Book 0.5

An unexpected offer of a night with the innkeepers daughter turns into a lesson in love Cyril will never forget.

This short story is the perfect introduction to Renea Mason’s Symphony of Light series.  You can read this on it’s own or as a companion to Symphony of Light and Winter, the first in the series.  It is steamy and thoughtful all in a quick and fun read.  I dare you to read this one and not pick up Symphony of Light and Winter.  I know I’m looking forward to book two and beyond.
